Apocalypse Now, Fact Or Purely Fiction

-->
Last weekend I spent most of my time watching apocalyptic inspired movies three of them in fact. It was a recent in such genre if one can actually call it recent, Though admittedly these movies was released a few years back. It was my first time watching them, so I think I'll call them recent in my own point of view. Apocalyptic genre isn't new to movies and has always been a big money spinner for Hollywood as far as one could remember from Mad Max to Terminator, metrix and the list goes on. And with all honesty I'm fan of such movie genre, seriously!. The creativity and the deepness of the story not to mention its vivid special effects, can bring one to ponder if such genre could be a possibility in a not so distant future. Of course one can certainly argue the fact that we as a race has for the first time since Alexander the Great started to take a stroll with his entire army and see the world. We, or to be more specific "powerful countries", has the capability to wipe our entire pathetic existence in less than an hour. Though there might be some few survivors here and there, it is however a certainty that if there would be another war to follow afterwards, it would be fought with sticks and stone or some lesser equivalent, that is to say if there is any chances of meeting or even building another civilization or society after the conclusion. As for any mutation or some hideous mind controlling disease, that would be another story. Or take for example the current and unusual weather pattern the world is currently experiencing. These current unpredictable weather patterns has taken lives, destroyed property and now currently threatened the world's food supply. The question remain...Can fiction become real? Luckily, we don't need to study hard on Albert Einstein's theory of time travel and build for ourselves a time machine to know what its like after the fire so to speak if indeed such events would happen in the future, though admittedly having your own personal time machine is not exactly a bad idea altogether. But to get a clear picture of the catastrophic possibilities we only needs to go to the movies and see most particularly the visual effects never mind the story lines. A crazy thought, but there you are...
Anyway, the first was the movie "Daybreakers" its a movie about vampire society who eventually replace the human race at the top of the food chain. Ironically this vampire society is running out of essentials (blood) as the poor human populace is about to become just another chapter in history. Imagine yourself in that predicament, being herded like cattle by vampires only to have your blood milked dry in some weird complex, which by the way reminds me of the movie matrix, where people are put in a cryonic state and become batteries for the machines. Or just imagine yourself being the vampire and slowly loosing your head for lack of nourishment, good thing its just a movie. So! whats so apocalyptic about it? If the human race is about to be wipe out or in a process of being wipe out I'd say its apocalyptic enough,to say the least. A Question though, could such a thing happen in real life? I don't think much about vampires and stuff. But for my opinion I think it can. If we change vampires to cannibalism. In a civilized point of view its impossible for such a society to exist and more likely just a subject to fantasy which fuel the movie industry, but is it really impossible? From an historical and cultural point of view its totally possible. Though, probably not as universal as the movies portray. Imagine a whole society of cannibals herding other people for food, though in today's present social condition its considered far fetch though not entirely false. If one looks into historical context such things did happened. The Bible tell a story about about a mother who out of desperation had her own child cooked (2 Kins 6 :26 - 29). During world war 2 at the siege of Stalingrad cannibalism were widely reported. In The Philippines island of Mendanau a fanatical anti-communist and anti-separatist group calling themselves the Ilaga (rats), were reported to have practice cannibalism in the war against their enemies. But none of it was as systematic as the Japanese Imperial forces during WW2 a fact that is will documented, also cannibal tribes still exist in remote corners of the words. Should such a thing occur in the near future? where cannibalism is the only solution for survival? Only time may perhaps hold
